Referral Requirements

To ensure a smooth process for your appointment, please note the following information about referrals:

Responsibility: It is the patient’s responsibility to ensure you have a valid and current referral. If you have changed doctors (GP or specialist), a new referral will be required.
Referral validity:
- Referrals from a GP are valid for 12months or indefinitely if specified.
- Referrals from Specialists are valid for 3months.
Indefinite referrals: If your referral is indefinite but the referring doctor has left their practice, the referral is no longer valid. You will need a new referral from another doctor within the same practice or from a new GP.
Medicare Rebates: A current referral is required to claim a rebate from Medicare. Without it, you will need to cover the full fee out-of-pocket.

Fees and Payment Information

Payment Requirements

Full payment is required on the day of your appointment.
We accept EFTPOS and credit card payments (excluding Diners and Amex).
Cash or cheque payments are not accepted.

Billing Policy

Tasmanian Lung Centre is a Private Billings Practice, with fees varying based on the length and complexity of consultations.
Feng determines consultation costs depending on the complexity of your conditions(s).
There are no out-of-pocket costs of ultrasound performed by Dr. Feng or lung function testing if you have a future appointment with Dr. Feng.
Video consultations attract the same fees as for in-rooms appointments.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations and No-Shows

Appointments cancelled less than 48 hours before the scheduled time or not attended will incur a cancellation fee up to the full consultation fee (not eligible for Medicare rebate).
Exceptions are made for extenuation circumstances, such as acute illness or family emergencies

Cancellations can be made by phone at (03) 6278 5456 (weekdays between 9:00am and 4:00pm) or via our email at TAS-LVH-CMG@calvarycare.org.au

Outstanding fees:

No further bookings with Dr. Feng will be made until outstanding fees are paid.

Fees Structure

Specialist Respiratory Consultation Fees:

Initial Consultation: $325
(Medicare rebate: $143.34)

Initial consultation (Pensioner): $250
(Medicare rebate: $143.34)

Follow-up consultation: $165
(Medicare rebate: $71.40)

Follow-up consultation (Pensioner): $140
(Medicare rebate: $71.40)

Lung Function
Testing costs:

Spirometry: $50
(~15-minute test)

Spirometry + additional tests: $100
(~30-to-45-minute test depending on tests required):

Mannitol Challenge: $200
(~1 hour test)

Procedures for
self-funding patients

Please note that Dr. Feng is generally hesitant to perform procedures for self-funding patients (those without appropriate private health insurance) due to the significant out-of-pocket costs to the patient.

If you do not have private health insurance, please inform Dr. Feng. He will coordinate with the Royal Hobart Hospital or another service provider to arrange for the procedure to be performed.
