About Us

Tasmanian Lung Centre (TLC) is a respiratory medicine practice and lung function testing service which practices out of Gleeson House, Calvary Lenah Valley. Our respiratory physician and two respiratory technicians work together to diagnose, monitor and treat a range of adult respiratory conditions. We are passionate about respiratory health and strive to lead the way in the Hobart Region.

Our Team

Dr David Feng

MBBS, FRACP
Tasmanian Lung Centre, Medical Director
Respiratory Physician, Acute & General Physician
Dr. Feng graduated from Monash University in 2011 and completed his basic Physician training through Western Health and Ballarat Base Hospital in Victoria. Dr. Feng completed his Respiratory Medicine training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, before undertaking a research fellowship in Pleural Medicine at Northern Health, which provided him the opportunity to work alongside and learn from an internationally recognised leader in the field.

Dr. Feng completed his fellowship in 2021 and following this moved to Tasmania and commenced private practice in Respiratory Medicine. In 2024, Dr. Feng alongside his wife Beth founded TLC. He continues to provide inpatient Respiratory Medicine services at Calvary Lenah Valley and Calvary St. Johns, as well as consulting at Hobart Private Hospital. He also participates in the General Medicine on-call roster at Calvary Lenah Valley.

Dr. Feng continues to maintain an interest in research and teaching and currently maintains a role reviewing research projects undertaken by Respiratory Medicine trainees. Dr. Feng is passionate about respiratory medicine as a whole and he offers consultations for all respiratory conditions including asthma, COPD, interstitial-lung disease, lung cancer and pleural diseases.

Outside of work, Dr. Feng’s spare time is mainly spent chasing around his two young daughters and spoiling his Labrador Retrievers. His ideal day would be a day outside at the beach or in the garden and cooking a delicious meal for his family.

Alex completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2022. After graduating, Alex began working at the Thoracic and Sleep Group (Queensland) as a clinical scientist and CPAP clinical manager. His dedication to learning is further demonstrated by his recent pursuit of Graduate Certificate in Epidemiology majoring in Biology.

Alex joined us at TLC in January 2025 and completes lung function testing within our laboratory. An avid hiker, surfer and fisher, he looks forward to exploring Tasmania. If you have any tips, feel free to share during your appointment.

Beth McDonald

BPT, GradCertMgmt
Tasmanian Lung Centre, Director
Beth graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University in 2011. She has over 10 year’s clinical experience predominantly in cardiorespiratory and gerontology physiotherapy in public hospitals within Melbourne. In 2019, Beth completed a Graduate Certificate in Management (Healthcare Leadership) at Victoria University and was honoured with the Western Health Management postgraduate Excellence Award. Beth served as an Honorary Researcher at Western Health until 2024, after which she was the lead author of a journal article published in BMC Geriatrics.

Beth continued her career as a physiotherapist at Calvary Lenah Valley after moving to Tasmania 2021. However, with a young family and a desire to balance her lifestyle, she embraced a new direction by taking on the opportunity to help direct and manage TLC when it was established in 2024.

Beth enjoys spending time with her two young daughters -though she could do without the endless Taylor Swift playlists. Despite her busy schedule, she makes time for self-care by attending reformer Pilates classes and walking her dogs at the beach whenever possible.
